K & W Recovery Trading as Antony Batty & Company, Thames Valley. Employee Focus: Andy Lloyd

10th February 2022

Andy Lloyd joined us in June 2021 and is an Assistant Manager at our Oxfordshire Office.

This month we are shining the spotlight on one of our Assistant Insolvency Managers, Andy Lloyd, who is based at our Abingdon office, along with our Licensed Insolvency Practitioners and team of Insolvency Professionals.  We asked Andy to answer some questions, including what got him into the Insolvency profession, what he especially enjoys about Insolvency, and of course, we also asked him what he enjoys in his spare time away from Insolvency.

  1. What got you into the Insolvency? What do you enjoy about Insolvency?

“After nearly two and half years doing accounts and audit, I joined a new firm as an audit semi-senior (Feb 1991). Two weeks later I was asked if I didn’t mind helping out the insolvency department because they were a bit busy. 31 years later…. !

In accounts and audit, you tend to work on the same clients year in, year out. That does not happen in insolvency. You are always working on new cases and different case types, some of which have interesting claims against directors / third parties or unusual assets to sell.”

  1. Past career, firm, experience, interesting cases you dealt with

“Following my “temporary” assignment in Feb 1991, the insolvency department was bought out by Critchleys in June 1992 where I stayed until June 2021 when the process was repeated by K & W Recovery Limited.

One interesting (and frustrating) case was assisting in a court appointed receivership of a firm of solicitors where the two partners had fallen out. In addition to overseeing the firm, we had to act as go between for the two partners who would not be in the same building together. Fortunately, there were two offices. After about six months a sale to one of the partners was agreed. However, it was a costly affair for them both.”

  1. interesting fact about yourself, hobbies, interests

“I enjoy walking, as does my wife, and photography.”
