John is based at our Brentwood Office and specialises in Company Voluntary Arrangements
This month we are shining the spotlight on one of our colleagues, John Baalham, who is based at our Brentwood office. John works closely alongside our Licensed Insolvency Practitioners and specialises in Company Voluntary Arrangements.
We asked John to answer some questions, including what got him into the Insolvency profession, what he particularly enjoys about Insolvency, and of course we also asked him what he enjoys in his spare time away from Insolvency.

What you enjoy about insolvency? What got you into the profession?
“My particular area of insolvency is company rescue/turnaround, so I get real satisfaction when the case I am working on has gone to plan and we have succeeded in our mission to rescue the company and save jobs, particularly when the economic outlook is as bleak as it is right now, both for businesses and individuals.
With regards to what got me into the insolvency profession, I kind of stumbled into it as many do. My education ended when I finished university and after job hunting for a while, a good friend who was already working in insolvency called and told me that an administrator role was going at his Company which was a boutique firm in west London. I gave it a go and 14 years on I am still working in the insolvency profession.”
-
Past career and experience? Interesting cases you dealt with?
“Answered in part above, the boutique firm in west London I worked for was called Middleton Partners, where I started as an administrator before joining Antony Batty and Company in 2011.
I now manage all the Individual Voluntary Arrangements and Company Voluntary Arrangements in the firm as well as other insolvency case work. I have dealt with a number of high-profile companies and individuals and have assisted hundreds of Company directors and rescued countless jobs during my 11 years at ABc.”
