Q: What do you enjoy about insolvency? What got you into the profession and become an Insolvency Practitioner?
A: I graduated in 1990 during a recession and was introduced to some accountancy firms in Reading and the insolvency profession seemed to be interesting and varied. The job has certainly continued to provide variety both in terms of our clients, their problems and the possible solutions. I do like making a distribution to creditors or members on my jobs.”
Q: Tell us a bit about your career, especially any particularly interesting cases you have dealt with.
A: I started my career with Ernst & Young in Reading primarily dealing with Administrative Receiverships, so I was buzzing all over the Thames Valley dealing with trading receiverships, such as a pedigree pig breeder, which we dealt with in the middle of a hot summer. It was a bit ripe!! Antony Batty joined E&Y as a senior manager and we struck up a good working relationship, so when he decided to set up Antony Batty & Company, I was happy to take the plunge and help him from day one. I’ve been here ever since – but I’ll still make the tea.
Q: What are your Hobbies and Interests? Any interesting facts about you?
A: I’ve been a life member of the National Trust since I was seven, thanks to some very foresighted grandparents, and we do like visiting stately homes and other NT properties. I’m also a member of the Royal Geographical Society and enjoy their lectures about far flung places.
