Sharan Acharya, Insolvency Administrator

Like most people at Antony Batty & Company, he likes his football, being a big fan of his local team, the mighty Welling United FC, from the Vanarama National League (South).

  • Why did you become an Insolvency Practitioner/Choose a career in Insolvency?

I started my professional career in Mid 2015 as an account assistant. I worked in this sector until late 2016, when I came to know about the Insolvency industry. I consulted with my colleagues who advised me that insolvency was a specialised sector, where accounting and law work together. I liked the sound of that and hence I started my carrier in Insolvency in January 2017.

  • Your most embarrassing moment in insolvency

In my previous role, one day the IP had an informal meeting with his family members in our office and somehow his trousers tore off, so that they barely covered his backside! Keeping a straight face, he simply apologised, and simply said to his family members “sorry I tore off my trousers!” I didn’t know where to look.

  • Your proudest moment in your insolvency career?

When I attended a court hearing at Chelmsford County Court and Rolls Building – Business and Property Courts of England & Wales.

  • What piece of wisdom would you pass onto a new recruit into the world of insolvency?

Always be a good human being. Listen to what others have to say before you speak and believe in the value of teamwork. Also, if you feel something strongly, it always makes sense to me to express it – at the right time and in the right way, of course – otherwise you will regret it in the future.

  • What is your unfulfilled ambition?

To help others without letting them know that I am helping.

  • Persons who most influenced your career/life?

I do not have any specific person who has influenced in my life. Rather, for me, I am grateful for all the people that I meet in my life. They all help me broaden my perspective and change my perception towards life for the better.

  • Pet hates?

 When people Lie.

  • Favourite book?

Not a specific book, but any book which brings a smile to my face and brings greater understanding within me.

  • Favourite movie?

Hector and the Search for Happiness (2014), starring Simon Pegg, Toni Collette and Rosamund Pike.

  • Favourite song?

Any dance songs which start my feet tapping and move my body.

  • Greatest invention ever?

The Internet.

  • Biggest regret?

A cliché, I know, but I try not to have regrets. You cannot change the past so best to look to the future instead.

  • The person from history you would most like to have a glass of wine with.

Albert Einstein.

  • How would you spend your fantasy 24 hours, with no travel restrictions?

Eat, drink, sing and dance with friends and family.
